"A valuable resource for beginning theater practioners looking for an overview of all aspects of theater production, this book addresses play production chronologically--from show selection to strike--in an easy to read, "get it done" narrative. Like Paul Carter's Backstage Handbook: An Illustrated Almanac of Technical Information (1988, now in its 3rd edition), this book offers step-by-step examples of many basic stage practices, many illustrated with humorous anecdotes from Kaluta's own production experience. Though Kaluta covers none of the subject matter in great detail, the overview of production is very good and quite accurate, making this a good resource for amateur practioners, both the technically and nontechnically minded. Summing Up: Recommended. Undergraduates and general readers. -- M. Varnes, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale"
